Job Application Tracker in Google Sheets with Automatic Follow-Up Reminders

Most job seekers lose track of follow-ups, not applications. A 10-column sheet plus one scheduled workflow fixes that.

The columns

date, company, role, source, url, match_pct, decision, status, follow_up_date, missing_keywords, notes

Use a short, fixed set of statuses, such as to_apply, submitted, under_review, interview, offer, rejected, skipped. Free-text statuses make filtering and reminders unreliable.

The reminder workflow (4 nodes)

  1. Schedule Trigger: weekdays at 8am.
  2. Google Sheets: read all rows.
  3. Code: keep rows where follow_up_date is today or earlier and status is open; return nothing if none are due, so no empty emails.
  4. Gmail: send yourself a small table.
Free tip: store dates as YYYY-MM-DD text. Then "is it due?" becomes a simple string comparison (row.follow_up_date <= today) that works in any tool, with no time-zone surprises.

This reminder workflow is being submitted to the n8n template library as a free template.
